The Teller Bitterroot River Trail
The Teller Bitterroot River Trail is on private Teller property. The trailhead is located in the northwest corner of the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MFWP) Woodside River Access parking lot. Access permits to walk on the Teller Bitterroot River Trail are provided only to Teller volunteers and supporters who agree to comply with seasonal trail access guidelines and policies. Access permits for current volunteers may be obtained through the Teller office or online.
The Teller is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to conservation and education. In order to continue providing access to this trail, we ask for your cooperation and continued participation in The Teller conservation mission.
Trail Access Guidelines
Access by Permission Only. Permission is granted to Teller volunteers and supporters and may be obtained through the Teller Office.
Access is limited to hours/days listed below (or according to seasonal postings).
Please stay on the trail and respect all posted signs and boundaries.
Seasonal trail closures occur for Teller habitat management, education programs, hunting, and when conditions require closure (i.e. extreme fire danger).
Motorized vehicles, bikes, horses, campfires, and camping are prohibited.

Dogs must be on leash and under control of the owner at all times. Owners must remove any waste left by their dog.
Please help us maintain the River Trail. Take a small trash bag with you to help us keep the trail free of litter. Stay on the trail to protect resources.
Seasonal Access & Closures
- January 16 through August 31: Walking Access This private trail is open ONLY to walkers with written permission during daylight hours.
- September 1 through January 15: Hunting Season—Limited Trail Closure Permitted archery and shotgun hunters will be in the area, except on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Access for walkers with written permission is allowed on Tuesdays and Thursdays ONLY, during daylight hours.
By entering The Teller, you are accepting all risks and liabilities and agree to hold The Teller harmless from all actions.
