An Outdoor Connection to Last a Lifetime

The duck and goose decoys were set out.  Twenty minutes before shoot time we sat in the duck blind talking gun safety, bird identification, taking the right shot and how to lead birds.  The fall youth waterfowl hunt at Teller Wildlife Refuge was about to begin.  For these two young boys, it was their first waterfowl hunt.  Sharing this experience and sensing their excitement reminded me of my first hunt. It made me grateful for places like Teller that give us the opportunity to pass on our heritage and provide a nature connection to the next generation.

This is why I volunteer at Teller Wildlife Refuge.  To support wildlife conservation, help youth become active in hunting and the outdoors and to enjoy time working on projects that benefit wildlife.  Over the years, as a Teller volunteer, I have met some really great people, enjoyed the camaraderie with fellow sportsmen, and have earned a few blisters on my hands.  It’s been good for me and all for a good cause--the future of conservation in our valley.
